Trashing the Troops: Fox programming chief Peter Chernin admitted Sunday that one of the network’s recent sitcoms was no laughing matter. “Vinnie and Bobby,� about two blue-collar guys, “was an embarrassment,� Chernin said in explaining to a gathering of television critics why Fox did not send out advance copies of the show. “We saw no reason to trumpet it,� he said. “Frankly, we did not want it reviewed.� . . . Meanwhile, Fox said that it will counterprogram the opening of the Republican National Convention on Aug. 17 with a new TV movie, “Bonnie and Clyde: The True Story.�
