NATION IN BRIEF : OHIO : TV Station’s Error Broadcasts Alert

A Dayton, Ohio, television station trying to warn viewers about a storm inadvertently broadcast a national emergency message. WHIO-TV intended to broadcast a regional weather alert Sunday evening on the Emergency Broadcast System, but played an EBS tape signaling a national emergency, general manager David Lippoff said. Lippoff said the station immediately corrected the message and later apologized to viewers. Hundreds of homes were reported damaged by storms that swept through the northern half of Ohio.
