Brett Butler was sidelined for the first time this season Saturday because of a sore upper back he aggravated during the second inning of Friday night’s game when he made a diving attempt to catch Todd Zeile’s double to right center. Butler left that game during the fourth inning.

Butler suffered a dual shoulder sprain two weeks ago when he made a diving catch against the Houston Astros.

Butler led the National League in games last season, playing in 161, and made 35 consecutive starts this season before Saturday.

In the book, “L.A. Secret Police: Inside the LAPD Elite Spy Network,†by Mike Rothmiller, Manager Tom Lasorda was one of several celebrities whom Rothmiller said was spied upon by the network. According to Rothmiller, a file was also kept on former Dodger Sandy Koufax.

Lasorda said he was surprised when he heard about the network. He said he has done nothing wrong and has nothing to be ashamed of.

“Maybe they think I can’t count laps when I swim,†Lasorda joked. “Maybe they will see how hard I work, how many hours I put in, how I’m always at the ballpark.â€
