WHO SAYS? The “Hottest Writing Program in the Country.� That’s how Newsweek rates UC Irvine’s graduate Program in Writing in an article on “the new literary West.� But longtime UCI English professor Donald Heiney, who helped found the program, takes the accolade in stride. . . . “It’s a journalistic impulse to rank things like this,� says Heiney, who retired last year. “But I don’t think it’s possible to rank (writing programs) because they’re so different.
