Parents, Squirt Guns Soak Up Criticism
In light of the article on Super Soakers, I have looked at the toys my children have amassed as potential weapons--the rhythm sticks from my daughter’s marching band, the chemicals in my 12-year-old’s lab kit, the Frisbee we throw at the park.
Should all these be outlawed because we have failed to instill respect in our children?
Have our parenting skills atrophied to the point of needing police and lawmakers to parent for us?
We own a Super Soaker, and our children are trained in its proper use as a toy--and that when a friend says, “Don’t squirt me,” that means no.
