Dodgers Win First Against Phillies, 5-1

From Associated Press

Bob Ojeda pitched a seven-hitter and drove in a run as the Dodgers capitalized on two Philadelphia errors to beat the Phillies, 5-1, Friday in the first game of a doubleheader at Dodger Stadium.

Mike Sharperson had three hits and scored twice in support of Ojeda (5-4). The left-hander gave the Dodgers just what they needed as they began a stretch of four doubleheaders in a six-day span--his second complete game of the season and 41st of his career. He struck out four and walked none for the first time in 15 starts this season.

Ojeda, who has allowed three earned runs or less in each of his last 13 starts, pitched to the minimum number of batters over the first five innings with the help of two double plays. He gave up an unearned run when Mariano Duncan led off the seventh inning with a double, took third on an error by third baseman Dave Hansen and scored on Wes Chamberlain’s groundout.

Los Angeles used six hits, a sacrifice fly by Eric Davis and errors by Chamberlain and third baseman Dave Hollins to take a 5-0 lead through four innings against Curt Schilling (6-6).

Chamberlain’s miscue came on a first-inning RBI single to right field by Eric Karros that went under his glove, allowing Lenny Harris to score the second run of the inning. In the third, Hollins charged Sharperson’s bunt single and threw wildly past first base as Brett Butler came home. Sharperson scored the fourth run one out later on Davis’ fly ball.

Ojeda helped himself in the fifth when he reached for a high outside pitch and chopped a grounder to short that scored a run.
