Pomona : Interim City Administrator
The City Council has instructed the city attorney to negotiate a contract with Police Chief Lloyd Wood to double as interim city administrator while a permanent successor to Julio Fuentes is sought.
On Monday, Fuentes formally submitted his resignation, effective July 31, so he can begin a new job as Alhambra city manager Aug. 3.
Wood, 52, held the dual job of police chief and city administrator in Azusa for three years before giving up the top administrative post in 1987 to Fuentes, who was his assistant. After Fuentes took the Pomona job at the end of 1989, he brought in Wood as police chief.
Wood said he would continue as police chief while serving as administrator, but has no interest in holding both jobs permanently. After his police career ends, he said, he might be interested in becoming a full-time city administrator but does not plan to be a candidate for the post in Pomona.
