Television, Radio to Cover Swearing-In of Police Chief
Six television and four radio stations are scheduled to air today’s installation of Willie L. Williams as the chief of the Los Angeles Police Department.
KNBC Channel 4, KTLA Channel 5, KABC Channel 7, KCAL Channel 9 and KTTV Channel 11 all plan coverage of the swearing-in and remarks by Williams, scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at the Police Academy and expected to last an hour. The stations will also carry Williams’ news conference, which follows.
KMEX Channel 34 plans to carry Williams’ formal swearing-in and his address with simultaneous Spanish translation.
KCBS Channel 2 was uncertain about its plans.
KTLA is also preempting “Now It Can Be Told,†and a “Leave It to Beaver†rerun from 9-10 a.m. to extend its morning newscast through the ceremony.
On radio, KNX-AM (1070) and KCRW-FM (89.9) will run the ceremony and news conference. KFI-AM (640) will air Williams’ remarks and KFWB-AM (980) will “have some live coverage of the news conference and the ceremony,†according to news director Scott Gorbitz.
