Trade With China

We wholeheartedly agree with your editorial (June 9) that President Bush should not have given China most favored nation (MFN) status without conditions. Why not recommend not giving China MFN until it has shown measurable progress in its treatment of its citizens?
Also, why not advocate a boycott of all Chinese products, as we did with South Africa? Certainly China’s human rights record is as miserable as South Africa’s was. Our family has been boycotting their products since the Tian An Men massacre, except twice when we had forgotten to check.
Our reasons for boycotting China were reinforced when we learned that they were exporting items made by prisoners.
