An Effort to Find Cash in the Ash
An Indiana file cabinet maker is using a story about a customer bouncing back from the Los Angeles riots to tout its fireproof cabinets.
FireKing International of New Albany, Ind., said Dozar Co., an office products retailer at 2656 S. Western Ave., was burned to the ground during the rioting in late April and early May.
“While the building was still smoldering on Friday morning, May 1, I dug through the rubble and found my file cabinets,†Dozar President David Oreck said. “I got the records and my computer disks out, found temporary office space over the weekend, and was back in business Monday morning.â€
Some of the company’s nonessential records--such as old invoices--that had been in regular, uninsulated metal file cabinets were reduced to ash, Oreck said.
FireKing International said it is the nation’s leading manufacturer of fireproof files, with 60% of the market.
