Farewell to Jerry

It might have been daunting to take over the Travel section from, well, an institution, but I continue to enjoy the section as it has evolved. Nevertheless, I put off reading Jerry Hulse’s farewell column until this morning because I knew it would make me cry. It did.
Jerry was a great editor because he is a great writer, blessed with an observant eye and a soft heart. For those of us who love traveling more for those tiny moments of discovery than for the “grand tour” experience, Jerry has been a kindred spirit, whether blazing new trails or giving a fresh perspective on a place we all thought we knew.
