Injury Stops Cason in 100 : Track: Aggravating Achilles’ tendon problem, he stumbles and falls in U.S. trials preliminary race.

NEW ORLEANS — Andre Cason, the 60-meter indoor world record-holder, had his Olympic dreams dashed Friday when he suffered an Achilles’ tendon injury in the 100-meter preliminaries at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials.

Cason, a member of last year’s world record-setting U.S. 4x100-meter relay team, had run the fastest 100 meters in the world this year--a wind-aided 9.88 seconds--and had been considered a strong contender for the U.S. team for Barcelona. He stumbled about 40 meters into the race and fell 20 meters later.
