Nicaragua scored six early runs against Stanford right-hander Rick Helling and handed the U.S. Olympic baseball team its first exhibition loss, 7-1, at Cleveland. Team USA had won the first four games of its tour, three against Venezuela and one against Nicaragua, by a combined score of 49-6.
Phil Nevin, a Cal State Fullerton third baseman drafted first overall by the Houston Astros, went three for four and is batting .643 through five games.
