A 5-day-old boy was found abandoned Tuesday in a cardboard box on a Silver Lake street, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The infant, described as Latino, was discovered by a man walking his dog in the 1900 block of Apex Street shortly before 6 a.m., said Maria Iacobo, a spokeswoman for Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. “Someone just had a baby and left it in the street,” she said.
Iacobo said the infant’s umbilical chord was tied with a string when it arrived at the hospital wrapped in blankets and clothes.
The 6 1/2-pound baby was listed in good condition and was undergoing urine and blood tests and other routine tests for infants.
A California Department of Child Services representative will assume custody of the infant when the tests are completed.
No one has come forward to claim the child, authorities said.
