Redondo Expected to Appoint Nielsen

Jim Nielsen, the former boys’ basketball coach at Mira Costa and North Torrance high schools, has been selected as coach at Redondo, according to sources.

Nielsen succeeds Cliff Warren, who resigned after coaching the Sea Hawks for one season. Redondo is expected to make an announcement on the hiring next week.

Nielsen, 43, a former standout player at North Torrance and Washington State, coached Mira Costa from 1981-87 and coached North from 1988-90. He has not coached during the past two seasons.

Nielsen was selected for the Redondo job over longtime Sea Hawk assistant Tim Meyers.
