DANA POINT : 2 Council Members Served Recall Notice

Two City Council members were served with a recall notice Tuesday for allegedly having “lost the confidence of the people.”
Mayor Mike Eggers and Councilwoman Eileen L. Krause were given the recall notice just before the start of Tuesday council meeting. The notice was signed by three Dana Point residents, including John D. Bowler, who finished fifth out of five candidates in the June 2 City Council election.
Bowler said he wants Eggers and Krause recalled because they “voted against the people of Dana Point’s decision to put the city General Plan to a vote.”
An outspoken group of Dana Point residents have insisted that the city’s plan would increase traffic and ruin the “small-town atmosphere” of the coastal community and have demanded that it be put to a citywide vote.
After a petition signed by 2,300 people demanding the vote was validated by a court ruling, the council appealed, stalling any citywide referendum.
“I just don’t like them not allowing the people’s petition to go forward,” Bowler said.
