Population Control Would Help Ghetto

With all due respect to Susan Moffat’s excellent article “Everyone Pays for the Damage Done by Guns” (May 12), her conclusion that business leaders should invest in the heart of the city is much too limited in scope.
The high cost of urban despair could be significantly reduced if the despairing classes could be induced to stop procreating. Rather than just pouring money into fixing gunshot wounds at $33,000 per wound, let us dramatically expand sex education in the schools and supply free condoms and free abortions to reduce the unwanted children born to unwanted children.
Every dollar spent on population control as a remedy may be worth as much as $1,000 spent on other remedies for urban despair.
