From Associated Press

Big West Commissioner Jim Haney was named executive director of the National Assn. of Basketball Coaches on Thursday and will oversee the organization’s move from Branford, Conn., to Kansas City.

Haney, 43, will succeed Joe Vancisin, who retires July 31 as executive director.

“We have a dynamic and very talented young guy in Jim Haney to lead our organization ,” said Johnny Orr, NABC president and Iowa State basketball coach.

The organization, which represents more than 4,000 members from colleges, junior colleges and high schools, is moving as part of an effort to work more effectively with the NCAA, headquartered in Overland Park, Kan., Haney said.
