A Granada Hills man was killed Thursday when he was thrown from a jeep after the vehicle overturned on the Simi Valley Freeway, the California Highway Patrol said.
Timothy Maldonado, 20, died at the scene of the 1:45 a.m. crash on the eastbound freeway near Balboa Boulevard, Lt. Bob Clements said.
The driver, Kimberly Ann Terhorst, 20, of Granada Hills, was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and driving while intoxicated, the CHP said. She was freed after posting $20,000 bail at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Van Nuys Division, a jailer said.
Passengers Laura Ann Lehman, 19, and Christopher Delgado, 21, both of Granada Hills, were treated for moderate injuries at Granada Hills Community Hospital and released, Clements said.
Terhorst “drifted to the left due to intoxication and swerved to the right--overcorrecting--and lost control and overturned,” Clements said. Maldonado, who was not wearing a seat belt, “was then ejected and suffered fatal injuries.”
