About 45% of Ventura County’s 320,655 registered voters are expected to vote today in a presidential primary election that also includes races for county judge and supervisor, the state Legislature and Congress.
Polls in the county’s 452 precincts will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
The results of absentee balloting--about 21% of all votes--will be reported by about 8:15 p.m., election officials said. Semifinal results should be released by 2 a.m. Wednesday, they said.
Voters who need information about polling places should call the registrar of voters in Ventura. Calling numbers by area are:
Bell Canyon, Box Canyon and Oak Park, 1-800-660-5474; Camarillo, Oxnard and Port Hueneme, 385-8600; Fillmore and Piru, 524-4922; Moorpark, Newbury Park, Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks, 529-2060; Santa Paula, 933-8484; Ventura, Ojai and Saticoy, 654-5000. Dial extension 2754 after reaching any of the above numbers.
The projected 45% turnout would be comparable to the all-time low for a Ventura County presidential primary--43.9% in June, 1984.
