Voices From South Africa: “Sarafina!,” the upcoming film about schoolchildren in South Africa starring Whoopi Goldberg, will open the American Film Institute’s International Film Festival on June 18. The movie, shot on location in Soweto, is based on the Broadway play of the same name. Leleti Khumalo, who stars in the film as Sarafina (the role she originated on Broadway), will fly in from South Africa to attend the screening, which is dedicated to the City of Los Angeles and its diversity. The Miramax release is due out in November.
