HARTLAND, Mich. — With one small step, Ken Wilson ended a 40-year odyssey that has taken him into all of the nation’s 3,129 counties.
Dozens of welcomers were on hand to greet him Saturday as he emerged from his car and walked across the Oakland-Livingston county line.
Wilson, who is from Georgetown, S.C., began his quest in 1951 when friends said it would be fun to visit all 48 states. He decided to go one better and stop in all 3,095 counties. When Alaska and Hawaii joined the union, he added their counties to his travel log.
