WASHINGTON — AT&T; and two unions bargained until late Sunday night and agreed to reconvene today to continue negotiations after contracts covering 125,000 employees expired at the nation’s largest long-distance company.
Negotiators for AT&T;, the Communications Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers will continue talking today as long as they are making progress, company spokesman Herb Linnen said.
The unions seek better pay and job protection for AT&T; employees in the United States.
Weekly wages range from an average $379 to $727.
The company’s original 8% wage increase over three years was increased to an undisclosed higher rate Friday.
Technological advancements have eliminated about 133,000 union jobs since AT&T; broke up. Company officials say another 6,000 will be cut this year.
