Photo Finish: Preliminary box office estimates for the first two days of the Memorial Day weekend put two powerhouse movies in virtually a dead heat for first place. “Alien 3” starring Sigourney Weaver sold $14.7 million worth of tickets Friday and Saturday, while “Lethal Weapon 3,” starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, grossed $14.2 million. The gross for “Far and Away,” starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, was estimated to be just shy of $8 million. Walt Disney’s low-budget “Encino Man” grossed $5.1 million for the same two days.
