Debate on Hold: The U.S. Senate debate on a bill to fund public broadcasting will resume next week after lawmakers return from the Memorial Day holiday recess. The Los Angeles riots and ensuing calls for improved urban policies eclipsed public broadcasting among the Senate’s priorities last week, according to Nancy Neubauer, spokeswoman for America’s Public Television Stations, the lobbying arm for public television and radio. Senate Republicans have been holding up funding for public broadcasting since November, claiming it is too liberal.
