Moorpark’s Marine Signs With Tigers

Moorpark College catcher Del Marine signed a contract Friday to play baseball in the Detroit Tigers organization.

Detroit scout Dennis Lieberthal said Marine will report next month to Lakeland, Fla., for extended spring training. From there, he will be assigned to either the Tigers’ rookie-league team in Bristol, Va., or to their short-season Class-A team in Niagara Falls, N.Y.

Marine, an All-Western State Conference selection, finished third in the conference with a .380 batting average this season. He was selected in the 39th round of the June, 1991, draft.
