El Toro 3, Santa Margarita 0--Mike Gledhill had 10 kills as the visiting Chargers upset the Eagles, 15-4, 15-5, 15-8. El Toro will play at top-seeded Newport Harbor Tuesday. The Sailors had a first-round bye.
Corona del Mar 3, Laguna Hills 0--Derek Slingsby had 12 kills and Doug Hesse 10 kills in the Sea Kings 15-4, 15-0, 15-3 victory. Ryan Steelberg had 27 assists for Corona del Mar.
Huntington Beach 3, Estancia 0--Matt Fuerbringer had 24 kills for Estancia in a losing effort. Huntington Beach advanced to the second round against Irvine, which upset the Oilers in a second-round match last season.
Laguna Beach 3, Woodbridge 0--Eric Fegraus had 19 kills and Chris Seale 13 for the host Artists, 15-7, 15-9, 15-11 winners.
David Berney had 42 assists for Laguna Beach (17-2), which will meet Capistrano Valley in the second round.
In 3-A matches:
El Modena 3, Upland 0--Aaron Seltzer had 21 kills as visiting El Modena (14-1) won, 17-15, 16-14, 15-11. Jon Leedom added 14 kills for El Modena.
Esperanza 3, Torrance Bishop Montgomery 0--Brad Goldston had 13 kills as Esperanza (13-2) advanced to Tuesday’s second round against Valencia with a 15-10, 15-4, 15-4 victory at home.
Garden Grove 3, Santa Fe Springs 1--Mike Herrera had 17 kills and Thieu Nguyen 13 as the Argonauts (13-6) advanced with a 15-10, 15-3, 13-15, 15-12 victory.
Valencia 3, Elsinore 0--Duy Do had 16 kills and Jon Young 15 kills for the host Tigers in a 15-2, 15-13, 15-8 victory. Doug Finnell had 50 assists and six blocks.
In 2-A:
Calvary Chapel 3, Los Angeles Windward 1--Visiting Calvary Chapel (8-7), a wild-card entry in the playoffs, upset second-seeded Windward, 15-11, 15-3, 6-15, 15-12. Danny Neumann had 25 kills and Phillips Schildts added 18 for Calvary Chapel.
