PALMDALE : Recreation Center Plans Scrapped
- Share via
The Palmdale City Council has officially closed the book on plans to finance and develop a controversial $24-million indoor recreation center.
After three years of discussions, the council on Thursday directed city administrators to discontinue work on funding and building the center, which would have provided facilities for swimming, basketball, ice skating and other sports and games. The council in the past had said that the financially strapped city would go forward with the project if it had the support of the community.
Sixty percent of those voting in a non-binding advisory election last month cast ballots against a proposed tax on homeowners of $40 to $60 a year to finance the center.
