Herde, Saipe Named All-WCC

University of San Diego baseball players Kevin Herde and Mike Saipe were named first-team all-West Coast Conference Thursday. Saipe, a true freshman from University City High, was named Freshman of the Year and a unanimous choice for the first team.

Herde, a junior from San Pasqual High, received first-team honors for the first time as a utility player. Herde, USD’s team most valuable player, drove in 44 runs, ranking third in the WCC. Saipe, a right-handed pitcher, compiled an 8-3 record and 3.53 earned-run average and led the conference with eight complete games.
