Royals Fall From Favor Among Subjects

LONDON — Britons’ esteem for their Royal Family has slumped, according to an opinion poll published today.
Nearly two-thirds of those questioned think the Royal Family has been damaged by the separation of Queen Elizabeth’s second son, Prince Andrew, and his wife and by the divorce of the queen’s daughter, Princess Anne, from Mark Phillips, the poll showed.
The survey, conducted by Gallup for the British Broadcasting Corp., also showed 51% of Britons did not think the Royal Family was providing a good example of family life.
Sixty-two percent of those polled said the broken marriages had damaged the family.
Most people polled said too many members of the Royal Family received state money.
