A rowdy crowd smashed windows at a hamburger stand and attempted to stop a television news van near a South Los Angeles park Thursday, leading to 13 arrests, police said.
The crowd, at Leimert Park at Crenshaw Boulevard and Vernon Avenue, began to disperse after more than 20 police cars arrived, but as they left, “they attacked a news van and broke windows at a burger place nearby,” said Police Sgt. Pete Trilling.
Trilling said some of those arrested will be booked for inciting to riot and others for rioting. He said the group ran between cars, stopping traffic on Crenshaw Boulevard.
A KCAL spokeswoman said a man threw himself against the front of a Channel 9 van, shattering the windshield before the driver sped away.
