LOS ANGELES : Deadline for Scholarship Applications Postponed

Because of disruptions that may have been caused by the riots, the deadline to apply for federal college scholarships, known as Pell Grants, has been extended from May 1 to June 1 for students who live in Los Angeles or who expect to attend school here, federal officials said Thursday.
Secretary of Education Lamar Alexander said the action is part of an effort to assist residents after the riots that disrupted public services.
