Countywide : Schaefer Receives Sheriff’s Support

Ventura County Sheriff John V. Gillespie has endorsed former county Supervisor Madge L. Schaefer in the race for the 37th Assembly seat.
Gillespie said Schaefer was a steadfast supporter of law enforcement during her eight years on the Thousand Oaks City Council and four years on the Board of Supervisors.
“Madge is one of the key reasons that Thousand Oaks is one of the safest cities in the United States,” Gillespie said this week.
In his endorsement of Schaefer, the sheriff differed with Dist. Atty. Michael D. Bradbury and the Ventura County Deputy Sheriffs Assn. Both have endorsed Oxnard Mayor Nao Takasugi.
“I just don’t think her opponents have anywhere near the law enforcement record that Madge does,” Gillespie said.
Schaefer, Takasugi and five other candidates are vying for the GOP nomination in the June 2 primary. Republicans predominate in the district, which stretches from Oxnard to Thousand Oaks and north to Moorpark.
