Taiwan Invites Firms to Meeting on McDonnell Bid: The government said it has invited about 70 companies to a meeting Monday in hopes of gaining their participation in a proposed investment stake in McDonnell Douglas’ commercial aircraft business. The meeting, however, is unlikely to quickly clear up confusion about which Taiwanese companies will join government-backed Taiwan Aerospace Corp. in the deal, said Jack F. Tang, head of a government committee that is negotiating the deal. “They won’t be able to immediately make any decisions,” Tang said. “First we have to help (private companies) understand the whole situation.” Taiwan Aerospace Chairman Earle J. S. Ho and Yang Shih-chien, vice minister of economic affairs, will attend the meeting, Tang said. Officials of Taiwan Aerospace and the ministry were unavailable for comment. The deal has been in limbo since late April.
