MCI Communications Corp., crediting gains in its large business and consumer accounts, said its first-quarter net income rose about 9% to $134 million from $123 million a year ago.
Earnings per share rose to 51 cents from 48 cents a year earlier. Revenue at the Washington-based firm rose to $2.22 billion from $2.02 billion the year before.
