BURBANK : Fire at City Hall Injures Technician
A flash fire at Burbank City Hall seriously injured a technician and knocked out power at the building for about two hours on Tuesday, officials said.
Adam Guy, 30, of El Segundo, who was repairing electrical wiring in an air-conditioning unit, was hospitalized at Thompson Memorial Medical Center in Burbank with facial burns, said Burbank Fire Department Capt. Richard Fischer.
There was no immediate explanation or cause of the blaze, which started at 8:05 a.m. and lasted only seconds but did not cause any structural damage, Fischer said. Fire officials are investigating, he said.
Guy suffered first-degree burns to his face and was in intensive care, hospital spokeswoman Katherine David said.
“He was very lucky,†Fischer said. “He fell back away from the fire when it hit him in the face. It was fortunate he didn’t lean forward.â€
The fire knocked out all power at Burbank City Hall until after 10 a.m., city officials said.
