SIMI VALLEY : Citywide Cleanup to Be Held Saturday
The Simi Valley Neighborhood Councils plan to hold their semiannual spring cleanup Saturday for residents who want to dispose of old appliances, tires and other materials that cannot be easily discarded.
The cleanup, which has been held twice yearly since 1979, will last from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Royal Avenue, between Tapo Canyon Road and Voyager Avenue.
Yard waste and all other refuse will be accepted. But hazardous materials such as paint, batteries, used oil and insecticides cannot be left at the cleanup site, said Terisa Makarehchi, the city’s neighborhood council coordinator.
Appliances, tires and yard waste brought to the site will be recycled, Makarehchi said. The rest of the materials will be taken to a landfill.
The councils try to provide volunteers at the site to help the elderly or handicapped unload refuse from their cars, she said.
The city is seeking more volunteers to help with the entire cleanup effort Saturday.
For information, call Makarehchi at City Hall, 583-6756.
