Jury Decision in Robbers’ Deaths
I am repulsed by the jury’s finding of liability in the trial of the Los Angeles Police Department Special Investigations Section officers shooting of four armed robbers (“Gates, Special Unit Found Liable for Robbers’ Deaths,†March 31).
These criminals had engaged in a reign of terror, robbing many stores and endangering many lives.
The jury disbelieved the allegation that the robbers would point realistic-looking pellet pistols at the SIS officers. Historically, there are thousands of cases across the country where criminals armed with pellet or fake firearms aim them at peace officers.
Does the jury really believe that anyone but the taxpayers will pay the jury awards and attorney Stephen Yagman’s fee? This jury finding will only encourage Yagman and other attorneys to pursue further outrageous lawsuits.
