Taiwan Faces Pressure on Product Piracy: The Asian nation faces heavy American pressure to crack down on piracy of software, films and music in bilateral trade talks starting today. Under American trade law, the U.S. trade representative is due to prepare a “priority watch list” of nations with unfair trade practices by the end of the month. Countries on the list could face punitive tariffs on exports if they fail to make reforms within six months. The three-day talks in Taipei may determine whether Taiwan is placed on the list, officials said.
