AIDS and ‘Beauty’
I could not agree more with Rather’s commentary. To sit in the dark and listen to the genius of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken is one more painful reminder of our devastating cultural loss due to AIDS.
At the same time, the film articulates my private AIDS fantasy: that those infected with the virus could end their suffering, not by death, but by love.
