HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL : Grossmont Ties Consecutive Win Mark
Grossmont High won its 24th game in a row with a 6-3 victory over visiting El Cajon Valley Monday in the Grossmont League 2A-3A tournament. The winning streak tied Grossmont’s Section record for consecutive victories, set during the 1990 and 1991 seasons.
Jason Eskridge and Wynter Phoenix hit solo homers and designated hitter Jose Lopez had a double and a triple in the Foothillers’ sixth victory of the season. El Cajon fell to 4-2.
In other Grossmont tournament games:
El Capitan 2, Mt. Miguel 1--Dylan Smith stole home on a triple steal to give El Capitan (4-4) its first run and Chris Cunning hit a homer in the seventh to give the Vaqueros a 2-0 lead. Pat McMillin (3-1) pitched his fourth complete game in picking up the win, allowing three hits and striking out four.
Granite Hills 5, West Hills 1--John Palmer went two for three with two RBIs and Tom Fordham (3-1) threw six innings to pick up the victory for Granite Hills (5-2).
City Conference tournament
Point Loma 8, Lincoln 6--Josh Serrano had two doubles and two RBIs for Point Loma (5-5-1), which survived eight errors.
Patrick Henry 4, San Diego 3--Patrick Henry (3-5-2) trailed 3-1 entering the seventh, but Eric Slama tied it with a two-run homer and Nate Nelson won it with an RBI single.
