COMMUNITY COLLEGE SOFTBALL : Streak Is History for Rancho Santiago
Rancho Santiago stranded 11 baserunners and had its four-game winning streak ended by Cypress, 5-2, in an Orange Empire Conference softball game Monday at Rancho Santiago.
Carrie Frederick tripled in two runs and scored on a single by Stephanie Hill in the fourth inning to give the Chargers (20-11, 7-4 in conference) a 5-1 lead. Celeste Gordon had two hits, including a double to drive in a run in the fifth, for Rancho Santiago (12-12, 7-5).
In other Orange Empire Conference softball:
Orange Coast 1, Fullerton 0--Alisha Nelson pitched her seventh shutout for Orange Coast (18-6, 8-2). Fullerton is 17-10, 6-5.
Stephani Rogers reached on a fielder’s choice, was sacrificed to second, took third on another fielder’s choice, and scored when Fullerton catcher Kim Fritts tried to pick Rogers off third and hit her with the throw. She scored as the ball bounced away.
Golden West 10, Irvine Valley 0--Alicia Navarro allowed only one hit, a single with one out in the fifth inning, for the Rustlers (8-18, 3-8). Navarro (2-1) walked three and struck out three. Cari White stole three bases and had three runs batted in, and Marcy Rainwater and Lisa Bedgood each had two RBIs for Golden West. Irvine Valley is 0-11.
