MISSION VIEJO : Saddleback Plans Outreach to Latinos
Saddleback College will host Fiesta Latina, a day of entertainment, food and educational information for members of South County’s Latino community, on Saturday.
The day of outreach activities is the college’s effort to put Latinos in touch with the programs and services available to them at the college.
Highlighting the event will be performances by the Marco Forster Middle School Ballet Folklorico and the Antonia Rojas Flamenco Group.
Representatives from local service agencies will attend the event to give members of the community information on their programs and services.
Among the agencies participating will be the San Clemente Office of Gang Aversion and the Girl Scouts.
In an effort to encourage younger members of the Latino community to attend the event, organizers have arranged to bus 75 Latino students from Marco Forster Middle School to the event for a special day of college orientation.
“We hope to motivate them to make college a choice for themselves,†said Juanita Baltierra, event coordinator.
The festival is being sponsored by the college’s Extended Opportunity Programs and Services and the Sol Club, a student organization.
The event will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. in the quad of the college’s Business and General Studies buildings on the upper campus at 28000 Marguerite Parkway.
