POP MUSIC : SPRING ALBUM ROUNDUP : In Brief

*** Marvin Etzioni, “The Mandolin Man,” Restless. It took seven years since Etzioni left Lone Justice for him to finally get a solo album out, but it confirms what those who have seen him around L.A. have known all along: He’s one heck of a songwriter. What may surprise Lone Justice fans is the folky but somber confessional introspection of the album, owing great debts to Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and John Lennon. The weak point is Etzioni’s voice, though at times it has its emotional charms.
Albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor) to four (excellent).
