PEN’s Resolution on Mexico
The Times published an article by Merle Linda Wolin concerning the recent PEN resolution on freedom of expression for Mexican journalists (Opinion, March 8). That article was replete with the sort of unsubstantiated allegations, deliberately self-serving distortions of reality and outright lies that we at PEN have come to expect from Wolin.
It is outrageous that The Times would lend itself to such a bathetic enterprise. To the best of our knowledge, none of what Wolin wrote was ever fact-checked by anyone at The Times with anyone in a position of official responsibility at PEN.
Truth has suffered. The integrity of PEN has been falsely and maliciously impugned. Serious abuses of human rights against Mexican journalists and other citizens of Mexico have been effectively dismissed.
