Pinch-hitter Derek Glascoe lined a single to right field that scored pinch-runner Fernando Zamora in the ninth inning and Huntington Beach defeated Long Beach Jordan, 5-4, in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday at Huntington Beach.
Derek Glascoe pitched four-hitter as the Oilers (7-0) won the second game, 2-1.
Huntington Beach, the county’s top-ranked team, trailed, 4-2, in the seventh inning of Game 1. Sophomore Craig Daedalow’s double keyed a two-run rally that allowed the Oilers to send the game into extra innings.
Huntington Beach (6-0) scored the winning run despite only one hit. Long Beach Jordan (2-3) committed an error and catcher’s interference in the ninth before Glascoe’s game-winning hit.
“That wasn’t the No. 1 team in Orange County, but we found a way to win,” Huntington Beach Coach Mike Dodd said.
