BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Poway Edges El Capitan; Helix Rolls Past Hilltop

Jeff Pattison hit a two-run triple with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to break open a tie game and give Poway an eventual 6-5 victory over El Capitan in a Hilltop-Moose Baseball Tournament game Thursday in Lakeside.
Pattison also scored on a throwing error, giving Poway a three-run inning and a three-run lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Trying to rally, El Capitan had the tying run on second base with two outs but grounded out.
Poway improved to 2-0. El Capitan fell to 1-1.
In other Hilltop Tournament games:
Helix 11, Hilltop 6--Gregg Wilbur had a home run and two RBIs, and Bobby Miller and Adam Bright each had two hits and three RBIs to power Helix (2-0) over Hilltop.
Granite Hills 10, Rancho Bernardo 6--Sophomore Eric Nelson was two for four with three RBIs to lift Granite Hills (2-0). Rancho Bernardo (0-2) aided the Eagles’ cause by walking eight batters and hitting another.
USDHS 6, San Marcos 3--Mike Hall hit a three-run homer, and David Cesena had three hits and an RBI to lift USDHS (2-0). San Marcos is 0-2.
Mission Bay 6, Escondido 4--Ivan Espinoza had two hits and three RBIs, and Adam Stuart two hits and one RBI for Mission Bay (1-1). Escondido is 0-2.
Oceanside Tournament
Grossmont 11, Oceanside 3--Wynter Phoenix, Benny Craig and Matt Jones homered in a four-run third inning for Grossmont (2-0). Phoenix homered after Jason Eskridge walked and stole second. Jones also had a sacrifice fly and two runs scored. Starter Ryan Wheeler struck out five in five innings to earn his first victory.
Crawford Tournament
West Hills 4, University City 3--Steve Gotowala and Ben Knapp scored on RBI singles by Barry Fitzgerald and Harry Caldwell in the fifth inning to help West Hills (1-1) to a second-round victory. Gil Campana went two for three for University City (1-1).
Coronado Rotary Tournament
Coronado 13, La Jolla Country Day 2--Coronado had an 11-2 lead then held on to remain perfect at 4-0. Kevin Ward, Craig Goldstein, Jason Switzer, Corey Laulom and Chris Bright each had two hits for Coronado (4-0). LJCD is 1-1.
Warhawk Tournament
Kearny 6, Valhalla 4--Kearny improved to 2-0-1, getting five runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth. Valhalla scored three in the bottom of the sixth but came up short.
Nonleague
Lincoln 3, Marian 0--Dan DuPont (1-0) struck out seven and walked one for the complete-game victory. Darran Hall went two for three with an RBI for Lincoln (1-1). Marian is 0-2.
