PATCHED UP: The demand for the latest in stop-smoking devices--nicotine-impregnated skin patches (E1)--is so great that pharmacies around the county have had a hard time stocking them. Sandra McClay, an executive secretary at Cal State Fullerton who has smoked 2 1/2 packs a day for 40 years, has now gone four days without a cigarette after one month on the patch. The problem: “I have one patch left,” she said, worrying that her pharmacy may not be able to refill her prescription today.
