San Diego : Cyclist Killed After Running Red Light
A 33-year-old man was killed when he reportedly drove his motorcycle through a red light and struck a city truck in downtown San Diego on Tuesday, police said.
The accident took place at about 7:30 a.m. when Martin Lee Washburn of San Diego entered the intersection of 16th and E streets and struck a city utility truck, police spokesman Bill Robinson said. Washburn was wearing a helmet when he hit the truck driven by Derick Andrews, 24.
Andrews had the right of way as he made a left turn from 16th street to E street. He was not cited, Robinson said. Washburn was pronounced dead at UCSD Medical Center.
Washburn’s death marks the second motorcycle fatality on city streets this year, Robinson said.
