CAMARILLO : Water Board Shelves Plan to Shift Clients
The Camrosa Water District rebuffed a request by the Camarillo city manager and mayor Thursday to discuss a proposed shift of 4,600 Camrosa customers to the city’s water department.
By taking no action on the request by City Manager William Little, the board temporarily shelved the proposal which was initiated by the Ventura County grand jury after an “in-depth study.â€
Three of Camrosa’s five board directors voiced vehement opposition to the grand jury recommendation, which board President Jeffrey C. Brown labeled “a revenue grab by the city of Camarillo.â€
When director Tad T. Mattock also questioned the city’s motives, Little called his comments inappropriate. “Mr. Mattock, we resent that, frankly.â€
Little said the City Council wanted to discuss the matter with Camrosa directors to respond to the grand jury, not for financial gain.
He said city and Camrosa officials would need more than the grand jury study before either government entity could make a decision.
But Camrosa directors charged that there was no sense throwing thousands of dollars into studying a system that serves its constituents well now. Brown said Camrosa would lose the majority of its residential customers and revenue by giving up its water and sewer business in the Mission Oaks area and Leisure Village.
